House of the week: A Tudor-Gothic style manor in Nurney, County Carlow

The spec..

On seeing this image a few of us here at House and Home developed some serious house envy. Welcome to Rathwade House. Located in Nurney, County Carlow. This incredible seven bedroom Tudor-Gothic style manor house stretches to over 9,000 square feet (gulp!) and sits on about 13 acres of beautiful mature gardens featuring a stunning collection of trees and shrubs providing complete privacy from all angles of the house.

One of the many things that drew us to this house are the mature climbing vines that cloak the facade of the entire house. This instantly makes it look homey and informal.  Can you imagine playing in this garden as a kid?

Why we love it..

The long entrance hall is very grand but it still looks welcoming and cosy with all the warm rugs on the floor and family pictures on the wall. We love the country style kitchen with its large cream Aga and green-painted timber cladding. You can practically smell the brown bread baking in the Aga when you look at this room. Love the idea of having french doors off the kitchen leading to the garden...

The library has a fabulous window seat set into the tall bay windows at the end of the room which would be perfect for a family game of cards on Christmas evening or just a morning coffee looking out onto that dreamy garden....

The fancy dining room is filled with elegant antiques and a plush red carpet that looks like your feet would sink right into.

How unfair is it that the owners of this house have so many amazing windows?

What a welcoming entrance... Well if you have €850,000 lying around this beautiful home could be yours! Additional information on this house can be found at http://www.myhome.ie/residential/brochure/rathwade-house-nurney-co-carlow/1611583
