According to global luxury source Robb Report magazine, the world's top resort is Ballyfin Demesne in our very own County Laois. Ballyfin's owner, Chicago businessman Fred Krehbiel spent $50 million on its restoration and renovation when he purchased the former school back in 2002. It opened last year as an exclusive hotel and offers every luxury imaginable to its distinguished guests. According to the director of the magazine, Ballyfin pairs state-of-the-art technology with antique furnishings and artworks. Falconry, trapshooting, boating and tennis can be enjoyed on the extensive grounds and it also boasts a Michelin star chef.
