Celebrate a late-summer weekend getaway with The River Lee in Cork and #myhouseandhome

With a beautiful riverside location, luxurious bedrooms and dining and drinks options to suit a lazy summer evening, summer weekends have never looked better. To celebrate, we’re giving away a two night stay complete with Afternoon Tea for two and dinner on one evening in the beautiful River Club – it’s Cork’s ultimate destination to eat, drink and be social, and the perfect place to finish off your summer.

Guests to Cork’s central and elegant The River Lee, just a short walk from Cork city centre, have seen some stunning changes to the hotel, with renovations during 2018 and this year to the entire ground floor, and refurbishments to the hotel’s 182 bedrooms well underway - we're talking ultimate hotel interiors goals!

The River Lee has been entirely reimagined and the hotel’s ground floor now includes sleekly stylish spaces like The River Club Bar, Terrace & Grill Room, the glamorous private events space, The Mirror Room, and the new destination in the lobby, The Cocktail Bar, which is also home to the hotel’s cleverly quirky (and delicious!) ode to the city, and a lovely way to experience Cork’s food culture, the Slice of the City Afternoon Tea.

The Slice of the City Afternoon Tea at The River Lee is an ode to the city’s best-loved landmarks all without leaving the comfort of your armchair, as some of the exquisite sweet treats are embellished with images of icons of the Cork cityscape through bespoke chocolate transfers and sugar craft. Starting with a surprise amuse bouche, the selection celebrates the best of Cork produce in classic finger sandwiches like Quigley’s spiced beef with horseradish crème fraîche, cucumber and chive cream cheese from West Cork’s Glenilen Farm and, of course, dressed Ballycotton crab served on homemade Guinness brown bread. With a selection of handmade scones and tea cakes served with luscious Glenilen Farm clotted cream and fruit preserves, the top tier of the Slice of the City Afternoon Tea in The River Lee is a selection of delights adorned with those famous Cork icons  – a raspberry & rosewater air mousse, pistachio gateau, chocolate and Beamish stout pudding and a mini apple pie decorated with emblems of The English Market, The Lewis Glucksman and St. Finbarr’s Cathedral.

It wouldn’t be a Cork afternoon tea without a tea from Cork, so all Slice of the City Afternoon Teas at The River Lee are served with the house tea – Barry’s Gold Blend, one of Cork’s most famous exports. There’s also a selection of Ronnefeldt loose leaf teas from which to choose, as well as a speciality coffee menu. Served daily from 12-5pm in The Cocktail Bar at The River Lee, the Slice of the City Afternoon Tea is a tantalising tour through a classic afternoon tea with a distinct Cork accent and is available for €30 per person. Prosecco Afternoon Tea is available for €40 per person and Champagne Afternoon Tea for €48 per person, and each guest also receives a handmade chocolate bar as a takeaway treat from artisan Cork chocolatiers, Ó Conaill Chocolates.

The lucky winner will also experience dinner at The River Club at The River Lee, which brings a polished and confident sense of relaxed glamour to Cork’s buzzing restaurant and bar scene. With a cool cosmopolitan vibe in the Bar, sophisticated dining in The Grill Room and a distinctly Mediterranean feel on the riverside Terrace, The River Club is Cork’s most indulgent destination to eat, drink and be social.

Where modern luxury meets the renowned charm of Cork, The River Club’s stylish décor is complimented by friendly staff, a vibrant atmosphere, creative menus championing Cork produce and an unmatched riverside location. Since it opened it has become a go-to venue for Cork’s social set and hotel guests alike, an attractive series of spaces designed to be enjoyed at all times of the day and night, with a natural flow created as the lighting, music and mood shifts from work to play.

Fancy making the most of those long summer evenings? Dine on The River Club Terrace, where dappled riverside light and tropical tree ferns create a balmy urban hideaway that can be transformed into a heated winter haven, where the mood and pace reflect the river running alongside – upbeat and energised or easily meandering.
