The Hoxton’s Poblenou hotel has beautiful interiors inspired by its location in the heart of a creative corner of Barcelona.
Words: Ruth Bell
If you love the home-away-from-home feel of The Hoxton hotels, you’re in for a treat at the group’s Barcelona location. It is situated in Poblenou, an area in the north-east of the city that runs from the centre to the beach. Now one of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods and a creative hub, this area was formerly an industrial one. And this can be seen in the high ceilings, polished concrete and stunning pared-back style of The Hoxton, Poblenou. You can be in no doubt of your location, however, with its perfect views over to the Sagrada Familia.
The gorgeous open-plan lobby is designed to provide both a welcome to the hotel and be a place to relax before and after a day’s sightseeing. Polished concrete floors and high-shine ceramic wall tiles blend beautifully with dark wood and comfortable chairs. A highlight, though, is the lobby bar, with its encaustic concrete design in Mediterranean colours.
Bright and airy, the Four Corners restaurant has elements of the New York diner about it to match the Italian-American inspired menu. Perch at the bar on a red-topped stool or lounge on the low-backed banquettes. Luscious greenery brings the outdoors in, while white lantern lighting in a variety of shapes and sizes softens the high ceilings.
There is a real Mediterranean vibe in the bedrooms, with terracotta floors, faded florals and a serene colour palette. From the industrial feel of the downstairs rooms, upstairs it’s all about being transported out of the city into a haven of calm. What’s more, the Homey bedrooms come with lounge spaces, dining area and kitchenettes so you can really unwind.
Handcrafted tapestries hang above the signature statement headboards in each bedroom, inspired by the abstract architecture in the Poblenou neighbourhood. Warm timbers and natural materials throughout the rooms help to create an ambiance that invites relaxation. Meanwhile, black-out blinds will ensure a great night’s sleep.
The rooftop bar Tope gives brilliant views across the city, while upholstered wicker and cushioned wire-frame chairs will ensure you relax in comfort. As in the lobby, lush greenery and warm terracotta lighting above the bar all add to the ambience.
