Tucked between two towerblocks in Warsaw will soon be the world's narrowest house - at a whole 72 centimeters wide at its slimmest spot. Designed by architect Jakub Szcz?sny, it goes up to an, er, roomy 122cm and will be built in a wedge shape.
The Keret House, as it'll be known, will stack up to a whopping 14.5 sqm of space when completed and will include one bedroom, a kitchen, bathroom and a sitting area spread out over four floors, all of which are accessed via ladders.
Pshaw, says House and Home. Sure didn't we have one of those tiny gaffs sandwiched between two others long before Poland, and didn't someone pay a whopping price to live in it too? Step up 19a Long Lane, Dublin 8. Anyone remember this famous Celtic Tiger folly? Once a laneway, the tiny space was infilled at some point in the past to to become a 2m wide abode (that's right around 7ft) that was sold for €155,000 as late as 2010.
Is the lure of living in a tight space for you? Or is a claustraphobic clamour too far?
