While interiors trends come and go, interiors styles tend to stick around a bit longer, with trend-led updates being added and taken away from an interiors scheme as they go in and out of fashion. Interiors styles change too, but not as quickly, so we've identified seven of the biggest home decor styles that are popular at the moment, and that are likely to stick around for another few years. Most homes will mix and match, though some people hardcore commit to just one of the home decor styles. We fall closer to the former, but let us know on Facebook, which one is your favourite!

1. Scandinavian style

Scandi interiors have been popular for the last couple of years, and it's still one of the big home decor styles that reign supreme, year on year, probably in no small part helped by IKEA's readily available scandi-inspired furniture and home decor. Pick a few essential pieces and you'll very quickly see the scandi style come together in your home. Mix minimal items in whites, greys and other neutrals, cleverly mixed with greens and soft toned colours. A mix of textures is good, in simple designs, and always remember that less is more.

2. Mid-century modern

Elegant and sophisticated, mid-century modern home decor focuses on furniture from the fifties and sixties. Clean, minimal lines and curved angles are a big feature, while the style focuses a lot on earthy tones paired with bold accent colours, like yellows, organes and reds. Retro, colourful patterns are found in rugs, paintings and soft furnishings, all teamed with a fair share of green plants.

3. Bohemian style

Rich colours, beautiful prints, and big green plants all tied together with a free-spirited style, bohemian style is super relaxed. Though it can feel slightly messy, the mix of texture and pattern makes for a dreamy, cosy space perfect for chilling in. Opt for ethnic inspired elements, and get authentic by picking up bits and pieces to round out your room while on holidays. Moroccan style prints are particularly popular at the minute for this style.

4. Industrial style

Another one that's been around for a while, industrial is one of those home decor styles that can easily be mixed in with others to give your room some edge, without fulling committing to the industrial feel if you're not totally into it. A lot of metallic elements perfectly match other modern materials and pieces, and it can all be combined with rustic colour for a nice balance between modern and vintage.

5. Shabby chic

Scandi interiors have stolen some of the shabby chic thunder, but if you're going towards something very girly and minimalism isn't for you, shabby chic works to bring a vintage vibe into your home. Opt for flowers, bird prints, lace, ruffles, wooden elements and sweet chandeliers to create the right vibe, and little distressed elements in your furniture will only add to how authentic the look feels. Keep colours to a pale, neutral palette and throw in some girly prints to tie it all together.

6. Modern urban style

If you, like us, spend your days looking at super stylish lofts in gorgeous European cities, chances are half of them are rocking an urban modern style. It mixes a lot of styles together, and it just works. Take some minimal furniture, add some glamourous insta-worthy details, and some modern accents, and you've got yourself a very slick little style. Pick higher-end furniture, on-trend designs, big couches and beds, fab mirrors and lamps, and throw in some vintage pieces for a modern, elegant home.

7. Farmhouse style

Farmhouse style might sound outdated, but it's a classic. Combine traditional decor with rustic elements and modern accents for a more contemporary take on it. Pick wooden elements, traditional style furniture, and add in some industrial feel items, like the bar stools in the photo above. Keep the colour palette pretty neutral, with small pops of colour to give it a fresh feel. Classic farmhouse plants like lavender give some authenticity, along with raffia baskets and porcelain dishes, and you can't go wrong!
