If you’re as addicted to Pinterest as we are, you’ve probably seen your fair share of giganto knitted blankets around. We are in love with them and how they bring the ultimate cosy factor to whatever room they’re in. We discovered a tutorial on YouTube showing you how to make your own, and we are dying to give it a try.

You knit it with cartoonishly large ‘needles’ made out of PVC piping and apparently it takes less than four hours to make. We’d argue you’d probably need to be pretty handy with your giganto needles to do it that fast, but if you get a gorgeous cosy blanket and the feel good factor of having made it yourself at the end, maybe it’s worth the time investment!

Laura Birek, a knitting blogger, released a step-by-step guide to making your own chunky knit throw, which you can watch below:

Basically there are three steps and a lot of repetitive actions to make your throw.

Step one: get yourselve some thick PVC piping tubes and wrap duct tape around the ends to make them a little bit more knitting needle like.

Step two: Use the pipes like knitting needles, following the process of knit one, pearl two, with a total of 24 loops across for a large blanket.

Step three: When you’re done and happy with the size of your blanket, weave the end of the wool in and out of the last row of loops to seal up the edges of your blanket. It should hold in place once you tie a loose knot at the end.

Easy! Now, just to try and remember our knitting techniques…
