It was love at first sight for author Cathy Kelly the instant she laid eyes on her home in Enniskerry, a unique and beautiful house where she lives with her husband and twin boys.
Best-selling author Cathy Kelly used to walk her beloved Labrador dog Tamsin past a particular house in Enniskerry, near Dublin.
I used to peer at it from the road and it looked really nice, surrounded by gorgeous trees and bushes, but I never dared go down the drive to take a closer look - says Cathy
Exterior:
After living on a small housing estate a mile away for several years, Cathy got her opportunity to view the house.
The house was put on the market and as soon as I went to see it, I totally fell in love with place. It just felt so right. It was a 50-year old Arts and Crafts house, of the kind designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, and originally named Mervyn Cottage. It was very higgledy-piggledy and individual with half-moon windows, a huge bay window and a sloping roof - says Cathy.
Hall:
We love the bright hall, which combines neutral cream colours with warm and welcoming reds and dark wooden details.
Living area:
A quiet corner has been turned into a stylish display area for Cathy’s pictures and accessories. The comfortable furnishings and warm colours make Cathy's living room feel truly homely.
A simple fireplace is the focal point in the living room.
Dining room:
The dining room is perfect for entertaining. Its big, old table in the centre sits ten people comfortably
We’ve had four big dinner parties in our lovely dining-room though... This house is perfect for parties
Kitchen:
The neutral colour scheme is carried through to Cathy's kitchen, and details such as the floral curtains and panelled wood cabinets create a subtle rustic effect.
