When Maylis was transferred to Dublin from Paris for work, she knew she had found a place she and her family could call home.  “We settled so quickly,” she tells me in the living room of her new home. “In Ireland, people know the value of kindness. We have a beautiful community at the school; children can be children, they are not pushed too hard. It is a beautiful thing to live in a city with such a village feel.”

Keen to avoid rising rental prices, Maylis and her husband Matieu set about purchasing a family home. They first saw Mount Verona in the newspaper. A three-storey, double-fronted house dating back to the 1820s, it had stunning sea views and sweeping granite staircases. Their first viewing confirmed what they already knew. “It was exactly what I wanted,” Maylis recalls. “And I could see immediately what we could do with it.”
