Take a peek inside this beautiful timber-framed house, situated in Wicklow's picturesque Avoca Valley. Owned by Gary Hick, owner of Rhatigan & Hick, and Liz Keily, a natural medicine practitioner, the house is a 2,200sq ft new build with three bedrooms on an acre of land. Designed by Gary himself, who hired an architect to draw up the plans and brought in a team of builders to help him realise his family's dream home.
The kitchen was designed by Gary's company Rhatigan & Hick and is reminiscent of a New York loft conversion, hand-painted grey wood with smart chrome hardware.
The living and kitchen area is open plan, with a patio at either end, which floods the interior with light and provides panoramic views of the stunning countryside.
In the sitting room the comfortable leather couch and colourful ottoman are custom made, with aqua throws from Avoca Handweavers and floral cushions to soften the look.
The natural colours in the distressed green paneling by Rhatigan & Hick and the oak floor reflect the views of nature through the wall to ceiling windows on the opposite side of the bedroom.
To explore the rest of this unique home, you can find it on p.34 of our September/October 2012 issue of House and Home magazine, in shops now.
