Paul and Leisa Stafford's bright family home

By Jimmy Loughran 24-02-2011

Award-winning celebrity hairstylists Paul and Leisa Stafford faced their own style challenge as they put their stamp on their refurbished family home in South Belfast. Married in the City Hall, New York in summer 1999, the Staffords can't get enough of the Big Apple.

It's no secret that we love New York. In an ideal world we might even live there but as that's not possible we've brought a little bit of New York to Belfast - says Paul

Living room

Even in the darkest days of winter, Paul and Leisa Stafford's big family home in South Belfast is flooded with light. Little wonder - there are 47 windows and not a curtain in sight.

Dining room

Paul relaxes in his favourite spot, the dining room, at an old favourite table from Habitat.

Kitchen

The smart high gloss buttermilk kitchen units are from MFI, a thrifty alternative to buying a 'bespoke' kitchen.

But we did take our friend (Belfast Michelin-star restaurateur) Michael Deane's advice to invest in Bosch kitchen appliances - says Leisa

Bedroom

We love hotel bedrooms and we've tried to recreate that feeling here - says Paul.

Candles and soft lighting make it a haven of relaxation. The bright seven-windowed room is also clutter-free. Clothes space and the TV and music system are secreted away behind a walnut unit designed and built by their joiner, Peter Lappin.

Bathroom

The streamlined bathroom features a spacious glass walled power shower and a suspended loo with concealed cistern. Units were found at Spendlove C Jebb.

Big as it is, the house has even greater potential. There's an enormous loft that the Staffords hope to have converted, one day.

Either for the girls when they are teenagers or for us to escape teenagers. There are brick walls up there, too, which could look really good. A sort of New York loft look. - Says Paul

We love Paul and Leisa's mix of bold colours and brilliant lighting.  Paul and Leisa admitted their love for the big apple, and the styling of their home has clearly been influenced by this. Do you take inspiration from any foreign aesthetics when decorating your abode? Tell us in a comment!
