A House and Home promotion

Tanya is a lover of Georgian architecture and looked to the 18th century for inspiration when she and her husband built their own home. Pam, meanwhile, is very much focused on the now and her contemporary home has the beautiful minimalist look that reflects this. However, these seriously stylish Instagrammers both chose the Dorset Herringbone fabric from Material World for their window dressings. Clearly, this soft and tactile Pale Grey material is versatile enough to work equally well in both modern and period schemes.

Material World opened its doors over 25 years ago on the main street of Naas in County Kildare and since then the business has grown to sell online to customers everywhere. With 50,000 metres of curtain and upholstery fabric in stock at any one time, this family-owned company sources everything directly from manufacturers and mills across the world, ensuring they are of the highest quality.  Not only that, you can also buy blinds, made-to-measure and ready-made curtains, plus braids, fringes and tie backs all from Material World (for your chance to win €500 to spend at Material World, head over to @Houseandhomemagazine!).

What Pam (@pamrich_style) and Tanya (@ballyboughhouse) found when ordering window dressings for their bedroom and kitchen respectively, was that the Material World experience is second to none, as they explain here.

Curtains for a contemporary master bedroom

“My husband and I moved into our home in January 2023 and I got really into interior design as a result!” says Pam. “I wanted to create a contemporary vibe throughout and when it came to the window dressings, I wanted to keep it minimalistic.”

Pam chose the Dorset Herringbone for the master bedroom because it provided a complementary backdrop for this colour scheme, as well as if her tastes change in the future. Material World was on hand to assist in her fabric selection, to create the beautiful floor-length design and then to install them so they hang perfectly. “The team were so accommodating and easy to deal with. I would highly recommend Material World to any first-time buyer because they give really good advice,” says Pam.

A Roman blind for a Georgian-style kitchen

“The building of our period-style home was a real labour of love,” says Tanya, who moved into Ballybough House in May 2021. The couple created the light-filled home they wanted, but with large windows comes the need to shade them, particularly in the kitchen where the window above the sink is a real focal point. This is where Material World came in.

“As a busy mum with two kids, being able to order fabric samples at home and have them delivered within a matter of days was a fantastic service,” Tanya adds. To bring a bit of Georgian-style embellishment to the Dorset Herringbone fabric, she added the Brittany Sage braid. It also mirrors the grey cabinets and gold details she chose for her kitchen cabinets and is a special statement piece in the room.

Dorset Herringbone fabric is priced €27.99 per metre and Brittany Sage braid €10 per metre.
